Darry's chocolate, is a fully animated TV commercial we did. Provided a visual board from client, we started to redevelop the story and followed by props and side characters designs. Client wanted the main character, who is a boy pirate, ventures into jungle and finally discover the chocolate volcano. In the adventure we added in an ancient-temple-like factory which manufactures chocolates. This is definitely a fun project to be involved in, matte painting and motion graphic were also introduced in this production.

Due to the storyline, this project required a lot of set designs, 4 of our artists, Hoimun, Carlyn, Jin Liang and Darren had worked on the concept art. To make the story more interesting, a treasure box that would transform into a chocolate factory was suggested initially, followed up by a pinball stage-like factory, then an ancient magical factory, through several discussion with the client, we proceeded on the later idea.

From artist first impression, we started to brainstorm and develop the whole factory. The challenging part was to design machines that work differently to produce chocolate balls, with a nice production flow that could be presented in a better visual in 3d. This stage took us days and nights to refine to meet the client's favour.

Normally character design would took the first place, however, in this project the main character was provided by client. So, what hoimun did was to refine the character in a way it can be realized in 3D and being rigged then animated. Due to the tight time line, we did some adjustment for the porpotion of the character in modeling stage too.

To make the adventure more exciting, a dangerous animal, crocodile was designed to be appeared in the jungle tacking journey. Before we came to that, we actually have the idea of putting in snake and some traps in the jungle, however, to feature all these stuff in a 40 seconds tvc was too much.
